PAELA is pleased to offer all PAELA members the opportunity to attend the upcoming February 22-24, 2024 winter meeting at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, PA. PAELA Member Registration and Sponsorship Registration will be available late Fall.

This program on guardianship law primarily addressed the importance and role of counsel for the alleged incapacitated person and the use of less restrict alternatives to guardianship. Discussion questions will include: How do we assure that a person who is facing or in guardianship is guaranteed due process?  What is the role of counsel and the role of the court in appointing counsel for an alleged incapacitated person and/or a person seeking to have their guardianship limited or terminated?   How can we recognize less restrictive alternatives to guardianship, including powers of attorney, health care representatives, and Supported Decision-Making?  How can we implement meaningful limited guardianships?   What reforms are being considered in Pennsylvania?
