PAELA supports the Disabled Military Child Protection Act – HR 2249
The Disabled Military Child Protection Act will allow military retirees, upon their death, to leave their Survivor Benefit Plan to a special needs trust for the benefit of their disabled child. Currently, military retirees must either waive the benefit or leave it directly to the disabled child. This places the child in jeopardy of losing important government benefits for long-term care, such as Medicaid. This legislation will allow military families to better plan for the expensive and complicated long-term needs of their disabled children.
